Whole-School Monitoring System to Motivate Students

"It is wise for us to choose English Builder as a channel for students to develop self-access language learning. English Builder actively immerses students in interactive listening, speaking, reading, and most important of all, thinking. Not only does it widen students' vision, but also helps them gain confidence. Last but not least, our students develop the interest in English and start to build up the spirit of excellence.

With English Builder, students should be able to well-equip themselves for the challenges they face in the NSS English curriculum"

- Miss Ng

The HKTA Ching Chung Secondary School has implemented a comprehensive monitoring system which led to a remarkable 78% completion rate. With teachers' rigorous follow-ups and wise arrangements, great improvement in student's English standard is seen throughout the year.

Detailed planning and follow-ups

Before implementing any measures, teachers set the target completion rate at 80% at the beginning of the year. They then stream students according to their ability, regardless of their Forms. This encourages students to compete with peers of similar language ability. Thanks to teachers' weekly checks of EB results, they develop a clear and in-depth understanding of their students' progress in language learning.

To cater for the different needs of students, especially the weaker ones, teachers explain the lesson in detail to the class first and then supervise them to finish it in the MMLC. Further, scores that are too low are deleted so students have to re-do the exercise and make extra effort to improve.

Motivational Strategy

Students who achieve top class ranking are awarded McDonalds Coupons and Certificates in school assemblies. Those who performed well with a high completion rate are also commended in staff meetings. Meanwhile, during F.1 orientation parents come to recognise the important role they play in helping their child to enjoy learning without borders, whether at school, at home, and in the wider community.
